To Be Clear: 3D Mammography Can Save Lives

One of the most important steps in treating breast cancer is properly identifying the disease in its early stages, a precaution that's regularly performed through a mammogram. Now, thanks to Northern Westchester Hospital's state-of-the-art radiology and 3D mammography offerings, area women are able to receive premier breast care in a comfortable and compassionate environment.

"[The hospital's] Yorktown Imaging offers 3D mammography...which is an advantage because it is better able to detect abnormalities as well as decrease the need for additional imaging," said Dr. Stefanie Zalasin, a radiologist and breast imaging specialist at Yorktown Imaging.

Part of Northern Westchester Hospital's network of care, the women-only radiology facility takes a unique approach to breast mammogram, understanding that these check-ins save lives. 3D mammograms are unique in that they allow doctors to reach a clearer, more definitive assessment and offer near-instant results. This gives patients the opportunity to review results with the doctor in person and eliminate a stressful waiting period, as well as address questions and receive information and details directly from the radiologist.

"Having a 3D mammogram only adds a few more seconds of time, however does save the patient time in that they may not need to return for additional images," said Zalasin.

The Women’s Imaging Center, which is located at Northern Westchester Hospital and in Yorktown, has been an acclaimed Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by The American College of Radiology.
